SAXON FOOTBALL FOUNDATION

     South Salem High School has had a long tradition of success in academics and athletics.  The Saxon Football Foundation was formed ten years ago to gather donations from alumni, businesses, and fans to help keep this tradition going.  The goals of the foundation are to raise funds for equipment and football facility improvement, reconnect alumni to the program, and enhance the image of the program in the community.

     In the last ten years, the foundation has awarded eleven scholarships.  It has built and installed two new pro-style goal posts, repaired and painted the stadium press box and ticket tooth, put a new Saxon emblem on the back of the press box, and repaired and straightened the score board.  It purchased, painted, and installed a 40 foot cargo container for secure year around storage of football equipment.  It installed 50 linear feet of mirrors in the weight room, bought $7,000 worth of equipment, and installed “Saxon Iron Man” emblems on the door.  The foundation purchased a five man blocking sled, 4 pop-up dummies, an open field tackling machine, 3 quality video cameras for football filming, 3 sets of digital headphones, a used golf cart for equipment transport, two side line covers for the football field, two DVD players, CD and DVD discs,  three computers and a DVD sports editing program.  They enlarged and mounted pictures of all Saxon teams, who won league championships or placed in state, on the wall of the team room.   The team’s linemen chute was repaired and 6 new linemen boards were replaced.  We donated $500 to the stadium bathroom project and $2,500 to the stadium turf project.   In addition, the foundation has provided shoes, camp fees, travel sweats, and insurance for needy athletes.  The Foundation has also purchased playoff T-shirts for the coaches and players each year they have qualified, provided travel meals and food treat bags for the players, and presented the senior players with a senior team picture at the Award Night.
